The Gavin Mahlie

All Things Shakespeare Program

Each year, as part of our summer season, the New Orleans Shakespeare Festival at Tulane offers local high school students the opportunity to rehearse and present a full production of one of Shakespeare’s plays under the guidance of theatre professionals and educators. This year All Things Shakespeare will rehearse and perform:

The Taming of the Shrew

Auditions for our 2013 production have concluded. Information regarding 2014 will be posted here in the Spring of 2014.

In the meantime, please contact Chaney Tullos with any questions at          (504) 314-7788 or ctullos@tulane.edu.

About Gavin Mahlie

/

The Festival’s All Things Shakespeare Program is dedicated to the memory of Gavin Mahlie, founding company member and one of New Orleans’ most beloved actors. The late scholar/director and beloved Tulane faculty member, Dr. Buzz Podewell, once said of Gavin “… and beyond being an actor, he was the most decent human being I’ve ever met. Just a loving man.”

Giving up a career in law to become a full-time actor, Gavin was a graduate of both Loyola University and Tulane Law School. He was the only actor to appear in every one the first 12 seasons of the Shakespeare Festival at Tulane, playing such roles as Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing, Brutus in Julius Caesar, Shylock in The Merchant of Venice,  Richard II, Richard III, Laertes in Hamlet and Banquo in Macbeth. Gavin Mahlie passed away suddenly in his sleep in 2006, leaving behind a legacy that still lives on at the Festival.
